Tottenham are eyeing Archie Gray’s repeat bid to sign Leeds United’s “key” star

Leeds Unitedafter rescuing a late point against Preston North End, they may have no choice but to turn their attention to the January transfer window, with Tottenham Hotspur reportedly keen to re-sign Archie Gray.

Leeds transfer news

The Whites are set for automatic promotion after suffering play-off heartbreak last season and while a point against Preston would disappoint those in Yorkshire, a last-gasp draw could still make all the difference. Thanks to Jack Whatmow’s unfortunate own goal from the bench to forget, Leeds now find themselves three points off the Championship leaders Sheffield United.

However, with the January transfer window around the corner, those at Elland Road may have no choice but to prepare for potential departures after a summer full of big departures.

Fresh from play-off heartbreak, Leeds were forced to part ways with Chrissencio Summerville, Giorgini Rutter and, most frustratingly, the graduate Gray, who swapped Elland Road for Tottenham Hotspur.

Leeds United grabbed the last equalizer to draw against Preston earlier today.

Now, as the winter window approaches, the Lilywhites could once again make their mark to repeat the summer raid for Gray. According to Leeds United News, Spurs are now eyeing a repeat of Gray to sign Pascal Strujko from Leeds when the January window opens in a few weeks.

The central defender proved to be an important figure for Daniel Wake so far this season, starting with each Championship plays in the heart of his side’s back line. However, with Spurs short of numbers at the back following untimely injuries to Mickey van de Ven and Christian Romero, Leeds could open the door to north London for the second time in six months.

Losing Somerville, Gray and Rutter in the summer was hard enough, but Leeds were at least in a position to replace their departed stars, which is not always the case in the January transfer window. Simply put, the loss of any key figure in the midst of their promotion push will almost certainly derail Leeds’ Premier League pursuit, which is currently well on its way to success.

Struijk he certainly falls under the label of a key figure, considering the praise that he received Wake up sent its way at the end of October. The German told reporters, as reported by The Leeds Press: “He adapted well to my requirements and played a key role. We don’t need to talk about his skills with the ball. I’m very happy with his development.”

At 25, turning down interest from Spurs would not be easy, but Struijk must consider the potential success of promotion and his place at the heart of that success. In North London, he will likely end up as the fourth centre-back behind Van de Ven, Romero and Radu Dragusin when they are all fit and firing. At Elland Road, meanwhile, he can remain the main man at the back, which could win the argument.
