Amazon’s 2023 Echo Buds impressed me in a few ways I didn’t expect. For starters, they sound good for a budget open-back headphone, delivering decent clarity and ample bass. They also have a robust feature set, including multi-point Bluetooth pairing, hands-free Alexa, and ear-detection sensors that pause your audio when you remove one or both ear buds.

Their sound is smaller than that of Apple AirPods 3which deliver fuller bass and an overall fuller, smoother sound. (They’re better at handling more complicated music tracks with many instruments playing at the same time.) AirPods 3 cost about $150 and offer only about 15% to 20% better sound. In short, if you’re looking for open-back headphones—or “semi-open” as these types of headphones are sometimes called—the Echo Buds are a good value at their $50 list price, and they’re even easier to recommend when they go on sale.

Right now, you can take half off this pair.

Pixel Buds Pro are Google’s first headphones with active noise cancellation. While it’s nice to finally have a feature that many true wireless earbuds have had for a while, what ultimately sets the Pixel Buds Pro apart and makes them worth considering—especially for Android users—is their distinct design and winning combination. This helps improve their performance on both the sound quality and noise cancellation fronts. Although not quite elite for voice calls, they performed well as a headset for making calls. A few features were missing at launch – surround sound and a five-band equalizer – but both have now been added via firmware updates along with some additional features.

Please note that the price varies depending on the color.

Apple/CNET

Apple products are known for holding their price well after launch, so take advantage of this $59 discount on a pair of 2022 Apple AirPods Pro 2 headphones. The cheapest we’ve ever seen them sell for is $169, so this isn’t too far from a record low.

Btootos/CNET

While we haven’t tested Btootos ourselves, this budget brand seems to have a decent reputation, and a Google search brings up plenty of articles and threads suggesting that their sound quality isn’t that far off from Apple’s. They have Bluetooth, 36 hours of playback, IP7 water resistance, an LED screen and a noise-canceling microphone. Not bad for only $20. Clip the coupon on the page for a full discount. This offer is for Prime members only.
