While discussing her scene-stealing screen presence, Jodie Turner-Smith opened up about how rewarding it is to start a new project all over again.

“I approach every project with the mindset that I know nothing and I’m excited to learn,” Turner-Smith, 38, shares exclusively latest edition Us Weekly. “Every human being is nuanced and that’s based on who we are, how we’re raised (and) what we believe, and I try to bring that to every character I play.”

Turner-Smith applies that strategy to her latest role on Showtime Agency.

“There’s a lot more than meets the eye when it comes to Sami,” she teased, referring to her character. “People need to understand that the human experience is complicated regardless of religion, race or culture. And I want people to see that humanity and what to be on this journey with Sami.”

Based on the French series Office of Legends, Agency is a spy thriller set within the department responsible for training and handling covert agents on long-term missions who live for years under a false identity. The star-studded cast includes Turner-Smith, Michael Fassbender, Jeffrey Wright, Richard Gere, Katherine Waterston, John Magaro and more.

Turner-Smith was delighted at the prospect act opposite Fassbender47, adding, “(I learned) so much. I did most of my (scenes) with him, and just watching him perform and executive produce was a master class for me.”

The experience even got Turner-Smith thinking about whether she would make a good secret agent.

“I put my all into everything I do.” So if I were to choose it as my job, I would do it to the best of my ability. I would aim for greatness. (But) do I feel it would be a good job for me? No, I’d be so worried,” she admitted before handing out her weapon of choice. “Necessity is the mother of invention.” Anything, (like) a stiletto or a telephone, can be (a weapon) if you need it.

Showtime’s Agency no they just have stacked casts in front of the camera — also brags George Clooney as an executive producer.

“I never saw George on set or anything like that, but I spoke to him on the phone once. And we always felt a presence – even though people may not have come to the set – we felt a presence,” Turner-Smith continued. “We felt the love, we felt the energy and we felt the commitment to what we do.”

She continued, “I love that Paramount isn’t one of those studios that does a million different things and it’s just content, content, content. They focus their attention especially on the few things they have, and put all their heart, soul and money into it. It’s so affirming as a performer.”
