Teen mum Amber Portwood defends ex Andrew Glennon over Gary Shirley child support drama

Teen Mom‘s Amber Portwood gets surprising support from her ex Andrew Glennon after Gary Shirley claims that she has not paid alimony for years.

“My reaction was that it’s not true,” Glennon, 40, said exclusively. Us Weekly on Friday, December 13. “I witnessed Amber paying regularly during our relationship. I would often go with her to hand over the funds.”

Glennon and Portwood, 34, began dating in 2017 after meeting Marriage Boot Camp Reality Stars: Family Edition. (She was a cast member while Glennon worked on the production.)

Couple welcomed his sonJames, in May 2018 before they broke up a year later. Although the couple faced each other legal battles during their public split, Glennon said that in much better place with Portwood today.

“Our communication has improved dramatically,” he said U.S. “We are able to be on the same page because of our son.” (James and Amber) are in constant communication, Facetiming daily and calling a lot.”

Although Glennon continues to keep James away from reality TV because he “deserves his privacy,” a source previously said U.S that Teenage Girl: The Next Chapter filming a new season.

An insider noted that cameras caught Portwood and Shirley, 38, not seeing eye to eye when they comes for child support through their 15-year-old daughter Lia.

“He claims that Amber hasn’t paid child support in years and he may want to take her to court for arrears,” the source said U.S in November. “Because their relationship was so long ago, Gary and Amber never established formal protocols for payments.

A source close to Portwood, however, said she pays child support.

“For years, Amber gave him checks and cash whenever he was due.” She has some bills,” the insider explained U.S. “She’s been open about her struggles, and it’s devastating that this is happening to the father of her child.”

Fans met Shirley and Portwood during MTV 16 and pregnant. Cameras rolled as the couple welcomed their daughter Leah in 2008. After the couple split in 2010, Shirley eventually became primary parent with Leah living with him most of the time.

From Glennon’s perspective, Portwood is a loving, caring and present mom. As a result, he wanted to come to his ex’s defense as she addressed the allegations on camera.

“Normally I wouldn’t get involved in things like this because I like to live a private life,” Glennon said U.S“but it seemed like the right thing to do since I’ve seen Amber repeatedly pay him large sums of money, especially for child support.”

U.S reached out to Shirley for comment. MTV has yet to officially announce the new season Teenage Girl: The Next Chapter.
