In the heart of Copenhagen Harbo, a two-storey modern modern housing now floats between the opera house and the island of revitalized paper. This architectural feat belongs to the Danish Designer and Craftsmen Søren Hvalsøe Gardefounder of the esteemed design company Garde Hvalsøe. Connecting innovative living with timeless artisans, a home of 1,507 square meters represents a personal and professional milestone for the Guard, which spent almost two years perfecting the project.
The journey began when the Guard inspired its son’s move into a floating community in Refshaleøen, known for its eco-conscious design and accessible student accommodation of modern containers. This experience caused deeper curiosity in the potential of water-based living. Garde, a lifetime manufacturer and designer, saw the opportunity to construct something that saved his love for functional beauty with his fascination of alternative living spaces.
Finding the perfect place, it turned out to be the most common part of the plan. With the city port space in great demand, it was to be the beginning of persistence before the Guard has provided an ideal location with stage views and architectural prestigious. Hence the vision was a form in cooperation with architecture Different HalsteenWhich resulted in a houseboard that blocks the line between residence and design facility.
Built in Poland and hovered at a permanent place in Copenhagen, the structure contains expansive glass walls that call on the port in, while carefully put terraces offering external shrines above the waterline. The exterior is lined with a dark wood that reminds the garde of praising wardrobes for signature, insurance and privacy and harmony with an urban landscape.
Inside is a window of the showcase for details on transferring and top materials. The kitchen, the focal point for Guard and his wife Rita, contains handmade garde praises, dramatic stone contradictions and opened culinary tools that speak with the passion of staple for cooking. Vintage Furniture Bruno Mathsson and Hans Vegner Sinking a dining area in Scandinavian heritage, while modern lighting and minimalist design add a refined edge.
“I like the process of creating something new and zero building, you get everything exactly as you want,” says Søren, who took the same access to this project as well as his company for cabinets.
Materials in the entire housing reflect both luxury and longevity. From brass bathrooms that will develop a natural patina on fine oak floors with deaned and concrete surfaces, the pallet is curbed, but richly tactile. Even the shower, paved in soft neutral tones, exudes a peaceful elegance.
Despite the reduction from a larger home, a couple priority is a priority to common spaces over private rooms. The look maximizes openness and flow, with utility areas taking central phases. The folded garden deck, perfect for summer dinners, complements the setting – space designed for life slow and enjoys water views.
The original characteristic is a wine cellar designed to measure, lined oak and temperatures over a system that draws on the surrounding sea water. This blend of form and functions complain carefully planning behind each detail of the house.
Education to the arrival of its floating house, the guard reminds itself of the emotional weight of the view that he continued to sit in place peaceful summer evenings. Since then, life on the water offered a renovated sense of serenity. The gentle movement of the house and anyway variable light over the arc has become part of everyday life – the embodiment of the Guard’s belief that the design imaginary can be lifted daily.
