KIEV (Reuters) – Russia launched a major attack on Ukrainian energy facilities on Friday morning, Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko said.
“The enemy continues his terror.” Once again, the energy sector across Ukraine is under massive attack,” Galushchenko wrote in a post on Facebook (NASDAK:).
Ukraine’s energy system has already suffered 11 waves of Russian attacks this year, which caused extensive damage and prolonged power outages throughout the country.
Friday’s attack caused additional restrictions on electricity consumption for consumers, according to national grid operator Ukrenergo.
All of Ukraine was on alert for airstrikes.
Local authorities reported multiple explosions in the southern city of Odessa, and Kyiv regional authorities said air defense systems were operational.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sibiha called on partners to urgently deliver more air defense systems.
“Russia aims to take away our energy.” Instead, we must deprive it of the means of terror. I repeat my call for the immediate delivery of 20 NASAMS, HAVK or IRIS-T air defense systems,” Sibiha wrote in a post on Ks.
