Morgan Wallen was convicted of allegedly throwing a chair off the roof of a Nashville bar nearly eight months ago.
Wallen, 31, pleaded guilty Thursday, Dec. 12, to two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment without a weapon. The country singer was sentenced to two years and seven days of probation at the DUI Education Center.
Billboard reported that Whalen appeared in court with his attorney and security. The musician wore a gray blazer as he appeared before the judge. Thursday was Wallen’s first court appearance since the incident in April.
According to online records he reviewed Us Weeklyand, the original charge of felony reckless endangerment with a weapon and a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct were dismissed.
“Earlier today (12/12/24), Morgan Whalen appeared in Davidson County Circuit Court with Judge Cynthia Chappell presiding where he entered a conditional guilty plea under the Tennessee Non-Conviction Diversion Statute,” Wallen’s attorney Warrick Robinson it was said in the statement for U.S on Thursday. “The plea agreement with the district attorney’s office requires Mr. Whalen to spend 7 days in a DUI education center, be on probation for 2 years — one year for each misdemeanor charge of reckless endangerment — pay a $350 fine and court fees.” Upon successful completion of probation, the charges will be eligible for dismissal and expungement.”
The statement continues: “Mr. Wallen has fully cooperated with authorities over the past eight months, communicating directly and apologizing to all involved. Mr. Wallen remains committed to making a positive impact through his music and foundation.”
Wallen was arrested on April 7 after allegedly throwing a chair off a roof Eric Church‘s Chief’s bar in downtown Nashville. The officers were standing outside the scene when a chair fell over them and landed on the ground nearby, the Metro Nashville Police Department confirmed. U.S at that time.
Bar employees claimed Whalen threw a chair six stories into the air, Channel 5 Nashville News reports. The arrest report said law enforcement later viewed video of Whalen “attacking and throwing an object over the roof,” but he ended up laughing. After Whalen was taken into custody, bail was set at $15,250.
A few days after his arrest, Wallen finally broke his silence.
“I didn’t feel comfortable coming out publicly until I made amends with some people,” the Grammy nominee wrote via X in April. “I touched base with the Nashville Police Department, my family and the good people at the chief.” I am not proud of my behavior and accept responsibility. I have the utmost respect for the police officers who work every day to keep us all safe.”
After the arrest and ongoing legal issuesWarren continued with his One night at a time tour. As Wallen continued to travel across the country, he waived his right to appear in court during the balcony incident proceedings, and his lawyer attended on his behalf.
“The court has formally waived Morgan Wallen’s appearance on Friday, May 3, as his presence is not necessary to advance the case,” Wallen’s attorney said in a statement to U.S in May. “The District Attorney’s Office has been notified of the waiver.”
