Max George is currently in the hospital being treated for a heart problem.
“Yesterday I felt unwell and was taken to the hospital,” The Wanted frontman, 36, wrote in a lengthy Instagram post on Thursday, December 12. “Unfortunately, after some tests they discovered that I have heart problems.”
George, who posted a selfie from his hospital bed, added that he will have to have “a lot more tests to determine the extent of the problem” and will need “surgery” before he can get back on his feet. The British pop star shared that it was his hospital visit it was supposed to be an extended stay, so he will stay there for the holidays.
“It’s going to be a tough few weeks/months… and Christmas in a hospital bed wasn’t exactly what I had planned!” he continued. “But, as always, I am surrounded by the love and support of my wonderful partner.” Maisie (Smith,) her family, my family and friends.. and I am 100% in the best place.”
George admitted that he was surprised by the diagnosis, but remains optimistic that the condition appears to have been caught early.
“Although this is a huge shock and no doubt a setback,” he wrote. “It’s something I’ll take on with everything I’ve got!” I consider myself very fortunate that this was caught when it was.”
The ‘I’m Glad You Came’ singer promised fans he would keep them posted as he will ‘probably’ spend ‘a month’ on bed rest.
Several of George’s loved ones and friends took to the comments section to wish him a speedy recovery.
“Here’s to you bro,” a bandmate Siva Kaneswaran he replied. “Rest and get well soon ❤.”
Smith, 23, also shared her support for her boyfriend, writing: “I love you Max ❤.”
After revealing he was in hospital, George shared a series of snaps of his room via his Instagram story. One video shows his patient information board. The dry-erase board said the only thing George wanted to do was watch a Manchester City football match. In a follow-up video, George shared a video of himself watching the game from his bed.

George is one of the five members of the British boy band The Wantedwhich went on an indefinite hiatus in 2014. In addition to George and Kaneswaran, the group included Nathan Sikes, Jay McGuiness and late Tom Parker. (Parker died in March 2022 fights brain tumors. After Parker’s death, the men reunited to re-record their song “Gold Forever” in honor of their late bandmate and donate the proceeds from the gift to The Brain Tumor Charity.)
Earlier this year, George and Kaneswaran announced they were reuniting for their new group The Wanted 2.0. The duo revealed that they plan to hold a series of concerts in the UK and North America.
