Manchester United are eyeing a move to sign Onana in the competition for his country’s best

As INEOS seems to be at hand Reuben Amorim the squad he needs to finally help the club return to the top of English football, Manchester United they are reportedly considering a move to sign Andre Onana’s successor.

Man Utd transfer rumours

Such is the complexity of Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system, Manchester United must get things right in the transfer market, especially after Erik ten Hag’s reign arguably left their team in a worse place than when he originally arrived. In this regard, transfer rumors were, of course, already coming thick and fast ahead of the January transfer window.

Manchester United may have made a mistake in letting him leave Old Trafford.

Names such as Xavi Simmons and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Evan Ferguson have already been mentioned, with both stars capable of transforming a rather dull Manchester United line-up for years to come. Simmons, in particular, would slot into one of the two No.10 roles in Amorim’s system to give the Red Devils an immediate boost alongside Bruno Fernandes.

The difficulties of the new manager’s system were evident in midweek when Onana was asked to play in from the back only for his pass to go short of Matty de Ligt’s misplaced pass to give Viktoria Plzen the opening goal.

The mistake has once again raised doubts about Onana’s reliability as a potential successor to his number one role now emerges. According to Alan Nixon, who conveyed Give Me Sport, INEOS and Manchester United are now considering the possibility of signing John Victorwho was voted Brazil’s best player after recently winning the Brazilian title and the Copa Libertadores with Botafogo.

The impressive Victor could replace Onan

At 28, Victor could finally land the biggest move of his career if Manchester United come calling, before potentially getting the chance to steal ahead of Onana and become Amorim’s undisputed number one. While the Red Devils’ current goalscorer is still stealing headlines for all the wrong reasons, the door will certainly be open for another option.

Statistically speaking, it’s no surprise that Victor was voted the best in Brazil as well. The goalkeeper kept the most clean sheets and crucially maintained the highest passing accuracy compared to other goalkeepers, a trait Amorim should have in abundance in his shot-stoppers.

Victor would be an unexpected arrival, but one that Manchester United would probably be wise to pursue if Amorim wants a goalkeeper capable of playing the football he wants on a consistent basis at Old Trafford.
