Jesse Tyler Ferguson is aware that he and his husband, Justin Mikitacan be “overbearing” parents to their two sons, Beckett (4) and Sullivan (2).
“I love it seeing the early relationship of Beckett and Sullivan and watching them play together, and also watching them in a way, we collectively develop opinions about Justin and myself,” Ferguson, 49, exclusively said. Us Weekly while promoting its partnership with Tovala. “You know, sometimes we’re a little overbearing and we want to hug them and hug them.”
He added: “Collectively, they’re both like, ‘OK, enough, back and together we decide you guys are a little underwhelming.’ I love that they’re already kind of, like, drawing a line in the sand together about us. That’s really sweet. I love that they will have each other for the rest of their lives.”
The Modern family alum and Mikita, 39, welcome Beckett and Sullivan by surrogate 2020 and 2022. Ferguson is especially glad that his two boys can rely on each other.
“I love my siblings,” said Ferguson, who has a brother and a sister U.S. “It’s so great to have people around my age who can, like, sympathize with me because of my crazy parents.” That’s so important.”
Beckett and Sullivan’s early relationship also affected the family of four celebrate holidays.

“We’re kind of figuring it out as we go along.” I like the idea of them having their own little Christmas tree to decorate,” Ferguson said. “This year we’re going to put a tree in their (playroom) so in case it’s a really ugly tree, we can just close the door.” I deal with aesthetics.”
He added: “They decorate their tree. It will be in their own little space.”

Beckett is also very excited about the upcoming arrival of Santa Claus.
“Beckett really likes Santa Claus.” In fact last year we had a Christmas party and Santa came to visit and Beckett was extremely excited that Santa was at his house and he wanted to show Santa his playroom, he wanted to show Santa his bedroom room,” recalls Ferguson. U.S. “I was scared of Santa when I was a kid, like, I didn’t want to sit on a stranger’s lap.” Beckett just hugged Santa. Sullivan, I’m not sure yet (if) he’ll be… you know, he didn’t even like him in his Halloween costume. This year we came out in our Halloween costumes and he said, ‘Take them off.’ Well, we’ll see how Santa does.
Beckett and Sullivan also have very different dietary palettes, so Ferguson—the head chef for the Ferguson-Mikita family—turns Tovala smart oven to cook meals that everyone enjoys.
“I’m very busy now that I have two children; I have this (‘Dinner’s On Me’) podcast,” he said. “Sometimes I have to make meals for my family (and) I have to do something easy.” I like that it makes dinner time, you know, time that I don’t have to stress about.”
He added: “I don’t like just popping a meal in the microwave.” … It can be healthy or it can be a little naughty, like, their desserts are delicious too. So I love that. It gives me the ability to eat healthy when I want and to eat a little more luxuriously what I want, and it also tastes amazing.”
