India punished for low rate in Australia ODI series.


The Indian women’s cricket team has been fined 10% of its match fee for maintaining a slow over rate during the second ODI against Australia. The penalty was imposed by ICC match referee David Gilbert after India conceded two overs. The Indian team suffered a clean 3-0 defeat in the three-match series. Despite the outstanding performance, the team struggled to match Australia’s dominance.

Battling for India series

The Indian women’s cricket team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, failed to defend Australia. The Australian women aggressively dominated the batting in the second ODI held in Brisbane.

Australia posted a mammoth 371/8, their highest total ever against India in ODI cricket. In reply, India collapsed and managed just 249 runs. This resulted in a loss of 122 rounds

Smriti Mandhana etched her name into history. She became the first woman to score four ODI centuries in a calendar year.

Smriti’s outstanding performance raised hopes for Team India, but her efforts were not enough to dominate the Australian women’s bowlers.

ICC auction and violation of rules

According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, the sentence was imposed Team India. This article deals with slow speeding offences. Under the rule, players are fined 5% of their match fee for overs that hit less than the target in the allotted time.

Court umpires Claire Polosak and Donovan Koch, along with third umpire Jacqueline Williams and fourth umpire David Taylor, made the charge. Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur accepted the penalty with no contest. The penalty served as a warning for Team India to improve their overall pace management in future matches.
