Neutral colors (or at least limited color palettes), easy possible behind the cabinet door, without visible product labels, clean lines, natural light, care spaces, but very limited – not “jungles”.
Here are some ways I applied some of my own advice at home:
I keep small appliances that are not used everyday. I keep my cappuccino machine on countertop. Everything else, like my iron, toaster, juicer, etc. It is supported.
My open shelves are stored fairly. Open shelves tend to look decay if they are overburdened. I only hold items that often often like cups of coffee and glasses. I also hold a plant on my shelf.
Oil and collection of spices remain in the drawer. Spices for piling furnaces can look messy but how much do you use daily or even weekly? If you are a big cook, you may be able to use all your spices often – but even then I guess you rotate through the same over and over again. You most want to regularly do not use many spices – so put them in the closet, drawer or closet near the furnace. I only hold olive oil, salt and pepper near the furnace for easy access. Note: I even put accessories and drawn into drawers instead of a counter – it is visually so clean and smaller hair magnets, especially if you have pets!
