Cobie Smulders “it wasn’t weird” playing Jason Segelwith a love interest on It is decreasing — but she is curious to know what it is How I Met Your Mother the fans will think.

“It’s going to be interesting to hear if people have an opinion on that,” Smulders, 42, told Us Weekly exclusively about her guest spot on Wednesday, December 11 episode of the hit Apple TV+ show.

After sharing the screen with Segel, 44, for nine seasons of HIMIM, Smulders could understand why some of the shows might be difficult the most passionate fans to separate the past from the present when watching It is decreasing.

“People will know us – or at least know me – from Robin (Sherbatsky),” she explained. “This is the second season of Downsizing — and it’s such a great show. So now they’re looking at it and maybe they switched Jason to Jimmy.”

Smulders and Segel, however, found that cit’s easy to play against each other in new roles.

“Jason and I grew up together. “We’ve spent nine years together and so we have shared memories and interests and we’ve just spent a lot of life together,” she said. “So it wasn’t strange to try a different shade of different energy on camera. I think it was quite natural for us.”

During Wednesday’s episode, Smulders appeared as Sophie, who crosses paths with Segel’s character when she tries to find the perfect car to buy her daughter. Sofia and Jimmy hit it off after bonding over their marital problems – and their meeting is ultimately sweet left open.

“When a scene (like this It is decreasing) is already so good, there is no hard effort to make this work. There aren’t many changes to the dialogue and it’s already running, which is so nice. Then I realized it was quite emotional because I was talking to Jason and we were hanging out. But it was like, ‘Oh my God, we’re going to play together again,'” Smulders recalled. “I found these two characters to be just these beautiful lost people who are just trying to get through it.” They are written so honestly.”

Smulders continued to call Sophie and Jimmy’s connection “nice”, adding, “I feel like the show shows such wonderful humanity on screen. I was able to just fall into the rhythm of the show and really bring another nuance to the show. It’s so hard to be a guest star so I was so grateful to have Jason as my scene partner. But it’s so hard to be a guest star and drop into something and continue the story as accurately and beautifully as you can. I’m glad I was able to do it with Jason by my side.”

Their time as how i met your mother Smulders explained, paved the way for former colleagues to imperceptibly pick up where they left off.

“The energy for both of us is always, ‘I’d work with you anytime.’ Working with Jason is absolutely fun and a lot of joy. I was simply delighted. I just know that for Jason and I, we would always want to work with you on anything,” she continued, before teasing a potential return in season three. “I’m so open to (returning). I would love to. I don’t know what their plan is for a third season, but I would be so happy to hang out with that cast again – especially Jason.

Smulders is the only star from How I Met Your Mother to appear on It is decreasing — until now. (How I Met Your Mother also acted Josh Radnor, Neil Patrick Harris, Alyson Hannigan and Cristin Milioti.)

“One out of four?” I feel very honored to be invited to come and play. I feel beautiful,” she shared with us. “I would like to work with (everyone else) individually at the same time.” We live in this era of reboots and it’s a really interesting moment of nostalgia. There are no talks about something like that. But of course I would love to work with all of them again in any capacity.”

Earlier this year marked 10 years since HIMIM premiered, but the show continues to find new fans thanks to streaming services like Netflix and Hulu. Smulders was incredibly grateful for the support of people who connected — or reconnected — with the show.

“We were lucky to do it for nine years and tell the story our creators always intended.” Because afrom which we saw from How I met your fathersometimes shows just disappear. And you’re like, ‘Well, who was the dad?’ So I already feel grateful that we chose when the end came. “Now I’m so shocked and I really feel like I’m part of something special,” she said. “I’m also always interested because the first few seasons there were no cell phones. And this is a show about finding love. So I’m wondering, ‘Is there some kind of correlation with the comfort we find because there are no dating apps?’

Smulders was intrigued as the experience aged.

“It’s kind of an archaic way of dating, I’m fascinated by what the fans think about it when they come up to me and talk to me about it.” But it’s touching and I love it. It’s so amazing that we’ve impacted anyone with what we do. Because you think you’re just throwing it out there and when people come up to you and honestly tell you what an impact it has had, I find that very moving,” she said. U.S. “I’m very grateful to be able to positively impact anyone through our art and what we create.” It took a whole team of people. But it’s such a wonderful thing to be a part of – and I really am such a small part of it. It’s just a great feeling that it’s still out there and making people feel good.”
