Welcome to How did they get it outWhere we close one special challenging aspect of domestic design and get the detail about how it became reality.
Greg Armas, founder of boutiques and fashion labels New York AssemblyThey came all the Holy of Los Angeles By time, Tijuani, hitting 20 years of traveling with friends from Los Angeles. Armas fell in love with slow tempo areas and mental energy, And that trips became an annual pilgrimage. When he met his wife, Gabriela Minguez, 2020. At the beginning of the pandemic, he was eager to share the place he loved. In the end, the couple made their way to Toda Santos and the same year and began the search for the home away from home.
The couple was at the beginning of money the upper part of FikskaBut one fellow night under Palapa on the roof of Taco led them to something completely different: an empty country of package overlooking water. Despite the change of plans, they immediately knew it was a place for them. “It’s on a beautiful little sin, exactly where the deserts and the ocean meet,” Greg says. “I just loved her.”
With the purchased country, the couple now faced a greater challenge: deciding what to build, despite that it was designed or built by the home earlier. However, they both had design preferences: In addition to the background grows in the Assembly, Gabriela is a clothing designer. “It was a long process by reducing what the rules for the house were. You have this blank paper and it can become anything,” Greg says. Editing their abundance of ideas has become fundamental to design. “We are not a minimum of minimalist, but we are definitely reducing. If something doesn’t have to be there, (we ask) if it is possible to remove it.”
It was a reducing philosophy – together with a sharp awareness of their way of life in Mexico – which led to a household kitchen. “I have a Design Issue with seeing elements That you’re not using. I’ve been used by Appliances in general, especially a huge Oven or a stove footage in your home. There’s so much visual weight to it The time when you probably use it no more than Four percent of the time, “Says Greg. “The idea of empty kitchens – large Viking devices, fake forehead cooks – all that was really lost on me. Can we just disappear?”
Greg is aimed at the idea of laboratory when designing a kitchen table, aesthetics that remembers that he likes in high school. The result is a space that defies gravity who feels half of the workshop, semi kitchen. “I remember that in the junior sense of thinking that the scientific laboratory had really interesting aesthetic,” says Greg.
Despite the layout of the table desk, it is surprisingly solid weighing about 150 kilograms. It is constructed from a cellular steel with four legs that are anchored in concrete floor for additional stability.
Since the exposed plumbing and gas lines are exposed, visitors are subordinated that this is not the most common charity environment. “At the floor level, there is a small type of facade that protects the valve and a hose base, so no one can get out of it or a dog can’t catch around,” says Greg. Fortunately, so far it was a stupid solution. “Having a whole liturgy to be very honest and transparent was part of that idea for us. We would only build something that you don’t see you not to see the bowels.”
“Examining the simplicity of that table, such as the simplest things, it takes a lot of hidden work,” Greg says. But as predicted, the extra part of the legs is early at the end. “When you’re on vacation, you don’t want things to ticklish.”
