Amazon Echo speakers come in all shapes, sizes and types, making these devices great for placing anywhere around the house… or even a car. Alexa devices are incredibly flexible, so people are becoming increasingly addicted to using the assistant in multiple places. That’s why it’s so easy to slip up and place the speaker in an area that could be disastrous for yours smart speakers and smart displays.
You may know that placing your Alexa device near water is not safe, but did you know that intruders can access your smart home device outside if it is placed too close to the window? Damaging your Echo isn’t the only risk factor at play here: you might be putting your own privacy at risk likewise.

Placing an Echo near your toilet is disgusting. It’s that simple.
Think of all the germs lingering around that area, even in super clean bathrooms. There’s a lot of bacteria floating in the air around the toilet bowl, and even though they’re invisible to your naked eye, you certainly don’t want them crawling around your Amazon Echo.
If you must have an Echo device in your bathroom (and we see the appeal), try to place it as far away from the toilet as possible.

You don’t want to risk your kitchen sprayer malfunctioning and submerging your Echo device, or the tall device being tossed into the sink. Instead, place it on another counter, like a kitchen island, or tuck it in a corner where it’s away from splashes of spaghetti sauce and water spray. It will stay cleaner and may sound better in the long run.

Keep your Echo away from any windows in your house. Location could potentially give anyone on the outside access to your Echo, and that could give access to your other smart home devices. For example, if your car is connected to your smart speaker, someone might be able to unlock and run it.
If your Echo is near a window, you should move it.
How many ads are there that say “Alexa, play…” and activate your Echo? Or if the TV says anything that sounds a lot like “Alexa,” guess what will activate. This not only pauses the show you are watching, but also starts recording what is said after the command. If you’re having a private conversation and Alexa comes on, it is risking your privacy. Placing it on a side table makes more sense and the voice assistant is more likely to be silent until you give a command.

You should never expose your Amazon Echo to heat sources, Amazon says. This includes space heaters, vents, radiators and furnaces. Doing so could potentially cause a fire or damage your Echo device.
Instead, make sure it’s positioned well away from the direction the heater is pointing to avoid potential disaster. For example, if you keep a space heater in your office, place the Echo on your desk and away from the heater.

If there’s one room you can keep an Amazon Echo speaker in, it’s the bathroom.
