Leeds United were left disappointed coming from Lancashire on Saturday after they could only secure a draw away to Preston North End.
They were 1-0 up after a first-half goal from Brad Potts and spent the rest of the game struggling to break down Paul Heckingbottom’s side, before a stoppage-time Jack Whatmough own goal made it 1-1.
The result left White in second place Championship in the table, three points behind Sheffield United in first place, and Daniel Wake he will surely aim to move to the top.
One player who could be ruthlessly dropped from the starting line-up to help Leeds go one step further is attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson, who has struggled in recent weeks.
The USA international came on as number 10 in the 1-1 draw with Preston and put in an impressive display for the West Yorkshire side.
He failed to create any chances for his teammates 65 minutes on the field and missed a ‘big chance’, as Sam Byram’s shot towards him in the box presented a fantastic opportunity to hit the target – only for Aaronson to fire well over the bar.
The former RB Salzburg star now has one goal, zero assists and zero ‘big chances’ created in his the last eight matches in the Championship for Leeds, with a close-range tap-in goal against Middlesbrough.
Farke must now finally drop him from the starting line-up due to his lack of production at the top of the pitch, and he could do so by freeing up another player in a new role at Elland Road.
Matteo Joseph initially thought he had secured a draw from the bench for the Whites on Saturday, only for it to end up being a Watmo own goal, after his run and effort at the near post led to the equaliser.
Spain U21 national team, who played the vast majority in his career as a centre-forward, he looked to be in a slightly deeper role when he came on, with Patrick Bamford in front of him, and it almost worked perfectly after he pounced on a loose ball about 25 yards out and drove forward before firing a superb strike from a distance that forced Freddie Woodman to parries him wide.
Joseph, who was hailed as “dynamite” U23 scout Antonio Mango, is a dynamic forward who can drive the ball, create chances for his team-mates and link up, which is why he could be suited to play as a number ten.

As you can see in the table above, the academy graduate has yet to break through as a goalscorer, but has shown impressive creativity, with four ‘big chances’ created in ten starts.
This suggests he could thrive as an attacking midfielder, in a position to create chances for his team-mates, and so Farke should finally ditch Aronson to free up Joseph in a new role.
