However, their next test is far from a walk in the park as Nuno Espirito Santo hosts the surprise package of the season in Nottingham Forest at the City Ground at 5.30pm this afternoon.
After the dismal run itself, Forest have bounced back with two league wins from their last three, so both sides go into this competition in similar form – and we expect a very close, hard-fought encounter.
“For us, Šuma is always a respected team,” he said Emery at Forest ahead of the Villa clash with them.
“They are a rival now because they have the same points as us. They are doing an amazing job, an amazing season. Last season we played in different circumstances and lost there. I know the difficulties we will face. Tomorrow they have Nuno and he was their coach when we played at Villa Park.
“I can see Nottingham Forest with his face, his identity. He’s always very competitive, Nuno. As a manager I played against him in Spain and in my experiences in the Premier League against Wolverhampton when I was at Arsenal.
“The games we’ve played have always been difficult for us – at that point we lost to Wolverhampton. His experience is very important, even in Europe”.
Off the pitch, and with the January window looming, there are rumors that yes Aston Villa are monitoring potential new options for the striker.
One player who has been linked this week is Juventus winger Kenan Yildiz. It is believed that Villa are monitoring Yildiz ahead of a potential move for him in 2025, but the Serie A giants have set a staggering price tag of around £66million for the 19-year-old starlet.
Speaking to Villa News, their former scout Brian King expressed his shock how much will Yildiz cost Villa to sign next year.
“Forget it, just forget it” said the king. “If we’re talking £25m, with the potential for the fee to rise to £60m, then maybe. However, I wouldn’t give an outright payment of £66m for a 19-year-old who plays for Juventus, who aren’t the best team in Italy by the way.
“He’s one to watch and one to talk about, but £66m? The game has gone crazy. Where are the incentives anymore? These big payments from Premier League clubs for players are ridiculous. I wouldn’t even consider this deal. This is a player who is doing well, but he is not proven.”
