BRUSSELS (Reuters) – European Union ambassadors agreed on Wednesday to a 15th package of sanctions against Russia over its war against Ukraine, Hungary’s EU presidency said.
The presidency announced on X that the sanctions will be aimed at the ships of third countries that support the Russian war in Ukraine and will add more individuals and entities to the list of sanctions.
Diplomats told Reuters the package also included a six-month extension for the Czech Republic to import Russian oil-based products that come mainly through Slovakia.
“I welcome the adoption of our 15th package of sanctions, specifically targeting the Russian shadow fleet,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on X.
The package of sanctions is likely to be formally adopted at a meeting of EU foreign ministers on Monday and will target close to 30 entities, over 50 individuals and 45 tankers.
Currently, 2,200 individuals and legal entities are on the sanctions list, which prohibits travel and freezes their assets within the 27-member bloc and over 45 tankers.
