Here at CNET, we’ve spent years rigorously testing a wide variety of mattresses, so we know how to spot the ones that are worth your money. We also know that not all mattress brands are created equal. We reviewed DreamCloud mattress for the better part of a decade. Over the years, we’ve seen different models come and go. We still remember when there was only one DreamCloud, and it was tan instead of navy — man, those were the days.
Today, there are six different DreamCloud beds to choose from, each different in construction, firmness and feel. DreamCloud is currently the brand’s most affordable offering, but since everyone has their own individual sleep preferences, it may not suit everyone. In this review, I’ll cover the key things to know before buying, including who it’s best suited for.
Disclaimer: The Federal Trade Commission recently sued DreamCloud’s parent company for falsely advertising that it mattresses are made in the USA.

This bed arrived at our office with absolutely free shipping, packed in a large box. The unpacking process was simple: we took it out of the box, removed the packaging and watched the mattress inflate quickly. At first we noticed that the bed was a little deformed, but after a night on our mattress, it completely expanded and took on the right shape.
When we returned in the morning, the bed was ready for testing. Compared to the older DreamCloud models, this one has much less of a memory foam feel. Neutral foams in the quilted cover and support coils ensure faster response times. It was also noticeably firmer than other DreamCloud beds we’ve tested in the past.
This bed has less of a memory foam feel than previous versions, but we’d still describe it as having the sensitive touch of memory foam. Supportive coils and neutral foams help balance the feel of memory foam. There is a slight pull-in effect, but overall, the DreamCloud Hybrid feels more like a neutral hybrid mattress than a traditional memory foam bed.
Other DreamCloud beds have higher quality memory foam. Since it is DreamCloud memory foam uses foam for support instead of coils, has more of a memory foam feel. The DreamCloud Premier and Premier Rest the beds also have thicker layers of memory foam for comfort, giving them a softer, body-conforming quality.
This is probably one of the firmest DreamCloud mattresses I’ve ever laid on. On our scale, it sits between a medium firm and a true firm. This makes it best for strict back or stomach sleepers looking for support versus pressure relief, or for those who just want a firmer bed.
While firmness is subjective from person to person, we have a machine at CNET that can accurately determine the objective firmness of a bed. The Mattress breaker 9000 gave this mattress a firmness rating of 7.1 out of 10. It’s a little softer than we thought the bed would be, but not by much—what does a robot even know? We are the ones who actually have to sleep on it.
This is a premium hybrid memory foam bed with a relatively simple construction. It is 12 inches thick and consists of the following layers:
1. At the bottom you have a thin layer of support foam that serves as the base for the bed’s main pocket coil support system. These coils are further reinforced along the edges to ensure a solid perimeter.
2. Then, there’s a dynamic transition layer that acts as a buffer between the support and comfort layers of the bed. It also has zonal support to help keep your back aligned while you sleep.
3. Above that, you have the main layer of bed comfort. In this case, it’s about 2 inches of thick, viscous memory foam.
4. Rounding it all off is a breathable cashmere blend cover. It feels beautiful and luxurious, with tufted mounds that go with the notion of “cloud-like” bed comfort.
Memory foam beds tend to perform best in this department, and we’d say the DreamCloud mattress does a good job of isolating movement. If you or your partner are light sleepers, you’ll want a bed that doesn’t echo a lot of movement. Fortunately, this bed absorbs a good amount of lateral mattress movement on both sides. It may not stifle as much movement as a dense memory foam mattress like a Tempur-Pedicbut will probably work well for couples who are light sleepers.
The DreamCloud mattress has excellent edge support. This is mainly due to the reinforced coils that run along the edges of the mattress. They definitely help you support yourself more when you’re on the perimeter of the bed. We often notice that firmer beds have stronger edges than softer ones because they have more stiffness and provide more support than pressure relief. And sometimes the softer beds bend to the sides more than you’d like – that makes us question it.
The quilted cashmere blend cover on the DreamCloud is designed to be breathable and soft to the touch. However, compared to beds that are designed for sleeping actively coolwe would classify it as a temperature-neutral sleeping option. Although DreamCloud, along with many other brands, claims that its beds sleep cool, a lot of it is just marketing noise. None of the DreamCloud beds offer active cooling, but they shouldn’t sleep too hot either.
Since this is a premium hybrid bed with reinforced edges, I’d say it’s durable enough to last most couples for several years. In the long run, hybrid mattresses tend to last longer than foam beds because support foams can break down faster than coils, especially under heavier people. The DreamCloud’s hybrid design should be durable enough to last all body types for seven to 10 years—at least.
Although the design of the bed is durable enough to handle all body types, its firmness and feel may not suit everyone. Here’s who we think makes this bed the best.
Note that this is a firmer style of hybrid mattress. Because it is so firm, it is best for strict back and stomach sleepers or those who like a very firm sleeping surface. (Same goes for the memory foam version of the bed.) If you’re a combo sleeper looking for a medium-firm bed, I’d steer you toward the DreamCloud Premier beds. If you’re a strict side sleeper who wants a lot of pressure relief, I’d consider the DreamCloud Premier Rest over the flagship DreamCloud – trust me, you’ll thank me for a long time.
As mentioned, the construction of this bed makes it sturdy enough to handle all body types, including heavier people. If you are petite or of average size, the support of the DreamCloud mattress may be too much for you. In that case, you can save money by using its memory foam version.
Size | Measurements | Price |
---|---|---|
Twin | 38×75 inches | $1,130 |
Twin XL | 38×80 inches | $1,213 |
Full | 54×74 inches | $1,463 |
The queen | 60×80 inches | $1,613 |
King | 76×80 inches | $1,963 |
Cal king | 72×84 inches | $1,963 |
Split king | 78×80 inches | $2,426 |
This is currently the most affordable mattress offer of this brand. For a more luxurious hybrid bed, the price is very reasonable. Plus, apply the discount to the queen size version and you can expect to pay around $665. Any hybrid queen bed available for less than $1,000 is a great value in our book.
DreamCloud backs this bed with some of the most generous policies found in the mattress space online. Its beds are shipped to you in a box for free, and when it arrives, you get a 365-night trial period to try it risk-free. If you don’t like it within that time, you can return it for free. If you decide to keep it, you get a lifetime warranty. Just be sure to use the right bed base. Otherwise, you may void its warranty.
If you’re looking for a more luxurious bed online, these are two of the best choices to consider. DreamCloud is a much more affordable option between the two, but with Classic availablespend more for a more tangible sense of luxury. With its double construction, organic cotton upholstery with gold embroidery and the appearance of a luxurious five-star hotel bed, it exudes elegance. In addition, it is available in three firmness options, while the DreamCloud only comes in one profile. The Saatva Classic also has a more traditional feel. But if you’re looking for a bed with more of a memory foam feel, it might be worth checking out the DreamCloud over the Saatva Classic.
Now, let’s compare the two most affordable memory foam beds available online. Both have support coils, are on the firm side and are similarly priced for the nut size. However, there are still some big differences between them. The DreamCloud has a less pronounced memory foam feel than the Nectar Classic Hybridwhich has a responsive memory foam quality. The Nectar bed also has a flatter sleeping surface, while the DreamCloud has a tufted, quilted cover. In short, if you want more memory foam, go with the Nectar, and if you’re looking for luxury, go with the DreamCloud.
There is no denying that the DreamCloud mattress is a quality bed for its price. I would consider it if you want a premium hybrid bed with a slight built-in quality that is on the much firmer side. If you end up not liking it, you can always rely on the great return policy that comes with it.

This is a pretty firm bed. It’s slightly softer than true firm on our scale, making it best for back or stomach sleepers. If you’re a combination sleeper who prefers a much firmer style of bed, you might also enjoy it. However, if you are a side sleeper, I highly recommend checking out the DreamCloud Premier Rest. It costs more, but may be worth it for most side sleepers looking for pressure relief in their next bed.
DreamCloud and Nectar are owned by the same parent company, Resident Home. Some other brands that fall under the umbrella of Resident Home include Avara and Cloverlane.
Being a premium hybrid bed, the DreamCloud should last you at least the next seven to 10 years, if not much longer. Hybrid beds are often thought to last longer than full foam beds because the steel coils last longer in terms of support. For that reason alone, this bed should last you for many years, regardless of your body type.
