Dolly Parton and her husband Carl Deanthey have been married for more than 50 years, but are rarely seen together — and it’s just the way they like it.
The country icon first met her future husband when she moved to Nashville in 1964 to start her music career. They married within two years of meeting, but as Parton’s star rose, Dean kept to himself.
They celebrated their 50th anniversary in May 2016.
“We’re perfect partners,” Parton exclusively narrated Us Weekly January 2022 “We both have a great sense of humor. … We are able to solve any problem and any situation, we joke and don’t let it be too difficult, but we respect and love each other. We were lucky, let’s put it that way.”
She added: “You know, most people can keep a marriage[strong]if you put in a little effort.” Some people just get sloppy and lazy about things that don’t matter, like leaving the toilet seat. And if that’s the worst thing you have to worry about, you’re already in trouble.”
