Dick Van Dyke is keeping the spirits up amid the wildfires that have been plaguing Malibu since Monday, December 9th.

“Arlene and I evacuated safely with our animals, except that Bobo escaped as we were leaving,” Van Dyke, 98, said via Facebook on Tuesday, December 10, thinking of his wife, Arlene Silver. “We pray that he is well and that our community at Serra Retreat survives these terrible fires.”

In another update, Van Dyke shared a cute video of his and Silver’s pet Bobo, writing, “Hope Bobo is ok.

According to The New York TimesThe Franklin Fire has burned more than 2,700 acres of land as of Tuesday afternoon.

Sheri’s publicist, Liz Rosenbergshe told the publication that the singer evacuated to a hotel along with her pets on Monday. Streisand’s spokesman said for The Times he was waiting for news about the Oscar winner’s whereabouts.

Tuesday’s tragic fire and evacuation happened just days earlier Van Dijk turns 99 years old on Friday, December 13.

Earlier this year, Mary Poppins the star jokingly said he hoped it would be still alive to celebrate his 99th birthday.

“I’m pretty old,” Van Dyke told a photographer in September, Per Page Six.

When asked if he planned to celebrate his birthday in December, he joked: “I’m just praying I make it.”

That same month, Van Dyke caused concern after canceling a number of scheduled appearances, including a fan convention in Utah.

“We regret to announce that Dick Van Dyke is unable to travel to FanX,” read a statement from FanX, the company that hosts the three-day event. “He expresses his gratitude to all those who continue to support him, but at almost 99 years old, traveling and interacting with thousands of people is more than he can do at this time.”

Legendary actor too has withdrawn from the 2024 Emmy Awards on September 15 despite plans for him to be one of the evening’s celebrity hosts.

However, he did attend the 2024 Creative Arts Emmy Awards on September 7, where his CBS special, Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magicwon the award for outstanding variant.

As well as joking that he is “still looking for a job,” Van Dijk shared his hope that his legacy will be one of “laughter.”

“For making people laugh for 75 years,” he told reporters on what he wanted to be remembered for. “I’ve been in the business for 75 years, I can’t believe I’m still here performing!”
