Dexter: Original Sin Prequel: What to remember about the big deaths, more

Dexter: Original Sin will shed new light on the prolific fictional serial killer’s upbringing – but what do fans need to know about where the character ultimately ends up?

He originally revived the role of Dexter Michael C. Hall in Showtime’s series, which ran from 2006 to 2013. After the original show ended, Hall returned to TV screens as Dexter in a 2021 spinoff titled New blood.

Patrick Gibson takes over the role in the prequel Paramount+. The series is set in the 90s and focuses on Dexter’s transition from college student to vigilante serial killer and unsuspecting member of the Miami Police Department. Original Sin also stars Molly Brown, James Martinez, Christina Milian, Christian Slater, Alex Shimizu, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Patrick Dempsey and Reno Wilson.

Before being introduced to the past version of Dexter, some viewers might be curious where his story initially ended. His story in the OG show left Dexter hiding out as a lumberjack after his half-sister Debra (Jennifer Carpenter), was killed. New bloodmeanwhile, he hinted that Dexter’s life had come to an end, which it did then he returned with news of another continuation.

As fans try to untangle that web of stories, Hall deserves credit for it Original Sin which gave him another window Dexter’s complicated world.

“The scripts they’ve done are fantastic.” I can’t wait, as a fan, to watch it, and as an actor to spend time watching actual footage of the things that I kind of try to imagine for myself when I imagine what Dexter’s early days (were) like,” he said. Dexter’s secret brother

While Original Son has been cast as Dexter’s immediate family, it remains to be seen if his secret older brother will be revealed. Dexter had learned this earlier when he was already an adult he had a brother — who was also a serial killer. Brian (Christian Camargo) became an ice truck killer and even stalked Dexter during his murders.

Dexter’s complicated family history

Slater takes over the role Dexter’s father, Harry, who was born from James Remar. Through Harry, Dexter started working for the police department, but what about his mother? Dexter’s biological mother, Laura (Sage Kirkpatrick), she met Harry when she was a confidential informant for the Miami Police Department. She was later killed in front of Brian and Dexter when she started working against the Colombian cartel.

Harry eventually adopted Dexter while Brian was placed in the foster care system. From there, Dexter was given an adoptive mother when Harry began dating Debra’s mother, Doris. She died when Debra was a teenager.

One of the biggest moments most likely to be featured Original Sin is Dexter’s first kill. From what was mentioned in the Showtime series, Dexter got permission from Harry to kill Sister Mary. Harry at first tried to stop Dexter from crossing to become a serial killer, but changed his mind when a medical professional started poisoning Harry.

Harry tried to guide Dexter’s inclinations by creating a code of rules for his son to follow. It involved killing those who deserved it and leaving no evidence for the police to track him down.

What was Dexter’s original ending?

U Dexter series finalethe main character was forced to turn off Debra’s life support system after she was brutally attacked by another serial killer. He adopted a new identity as someone who works for a lumber company, which left many longtime fans unhappy with the conclusion of Dexter’s story.

Original creator and host of the show Clyde Phillipswho exited the series after season 4, later shared that he had another ending in mind.

“In the last scene of the series, Dexter wakes up. And everyone will think, ‘Oh, that was a dream.’ And then the camera pulls back and back and back and then we realize, ‘No, it’s not a dream.’ Dexter opens his eyes and he is on the death row in a Florida prison. “They are just starting to give drugs, and he is looking out the window at the observation gallery,” he said. Where did the latest spinoff leave Dexter?

When Phillips returned to run New blood continuationhe could have given Dexter the ending he thought might be more fitting. The revival began after Dexter faked his own death in a hurricane and moved to a small town. Dexter managed to suppress his urge to kill as he built a new life – and saw hallucinations of his deceased sister.

New blood appeared with Dexter’s estranged son Harrison (Jack Alcott) that appears unannounced. The reunion set off a series of events where Dexter began to worry that his son would become a murderer as well. The ending of the limited series showed Dexter asking Harrison to shoot him so he could free his son.

Dexter realized that he felt love for the first time before he was killed. Harrison never took responsibility for Dexter’s death before leaving town to start over.

There is more to Dexter’s story

Doc Original Sin documents Dexter’s early days as a serial killer, there is no official destination for the show. Hall previously reprized his role in New blood series, and there are additional plans for another sequel. It remains unclear how Hall will play Dexter again after his character died — multiple times.

“I’m kind of in there and I have a sense of what’s coming, but I’m really excited,” Hall said Entertainment Weekly in August about the future of the franchise. “I’ve spent so much time with this character and it’s going to be great to come back and fill in all the imaginative gaps.”

Hall will appear on Original Sin as a storyteller for his younger self.
