Varner is leaning towards Konstas as his opening partner

David Warner showed interest in Sam Konstas as his partner in opening a new one BBL season with the Sydney Thunder. Warner will play his first full BBL season after retirement. Warner is poised to provide a significant boost to the Thunder’s campaign. Sydney Thunder faced disappointment last season as they finished the season at the bottom of the table with a point.

Cameron Bancroft is still a contender for the summer when he turned heads with his exceptional form. However, the Thunder captain emphasized that the final decision will be made after discussions and warm-up games.

“We’ll talk about it this week. I’m probably making a mistake between myself and Sammy Konstas at the top,” Warner said.

Konstas Impressive Performance

19-year-old Sam Konstas has been a standout performer this season. He showed his talent with ten centuries for New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield opener. He further built on his strong reputation with another century for Prime Minister KSI against India in a 50-over match.

Warner admired Konstas’ ability but pointed out that adjustments are needed in the T20 format. “It’s about going out there in Twenty20 stuff and trying to figure out how to play that format as well,” Warner explained.

Bancroft mixed form

Cameron Bancroft entered the season with the burden of his inconsistent performances this summer. Despite failing to score more than 20 in the majority, he somehow managed to score an unbeaten 105 in time in the Sheffield Shield.

With stars like Sherfane Rutherford and Ollie Davis, Warner remains optimistic about the Thunder’s strength.

“I’m excited. I’m going to uphold my standards, contribute to the team and make sure we’re all on the same page,” Warner concluded.
