Some cooperation are unexpected in the best way. “Satellites”A new exhibition offered by the Danish Film Creator Nicolas Winding Refn and celebrated designer Japanese game Hideo that – Is one of them. Presented Prada with support Prada FoundationThe show has landed in Pradi Aoiama Tokio simple, but sublime goal: researching how two creatives, from opposite sides of the world in different industries, overcoming language barriers to connect with time, space and common imagination.
When you arrive on the fifth floor of Herzog & De Meuron-designed Prada Aoiama buildings, do not switch to a typical gallery. Instead, you enter a carefully placed one bedroom apartment with mid-century, complete with a sofa bed, bed, lamp and rotating telephone – every seemingly drawn from another era, living enough and unusually aimlessly all at once. The space feels more like a film from the exhibition, asking the tone for what further takes place.
The exhibition is divided into two parts. In the first, Refn, and which appear on six retro-futuristic televisions that resemble small spacecraft with exposed panels, wires and glowing components. Within these sculptural screens, two creatives deal with slow, contemplative dialogue – one speaking in English, and the other in Japanese. Their conversation moves through themes such as friendship, cooperation, technology, creativity, identity, and even mortality. The effect is intimate and reflected, inviting visitors to stay, listen and interpret themselves at their own tempo.
The second part of the installation takes place in a nearby wardrobe, where the cassette is seated surrounded by crowd strips. Each tape contains a REMIX Refn and which is the conversation, mixing sound bite, cinematic results and alternative versions of their dialogue translated into different languages using AI. Visitors are encouraged to shake the cassettes together collect their version of exchange together.
In its core “satellites” is to explore the connection between people, funds and reality. As the worlds of film and video games continue to convert, they are suggested in the future common digital dimension – the one who remands how we create, communicate and experience together. It is a poetic view of that creativity and technology could eventually close closer, no matter how far we begin.
