Bonnie Wright returned to Hogwarts for Harry Potter: Baking Wizards — but don’t expect her to do the same in HBO’s upcoming remake.
“I think it would be confusing if we did that, to be honest,” actress Ginny Weasley, 33, exclusively told Us Weekly when asked if he wanted to join the new cast or make a cameo appearance. “I mean, if they did maybe one more story, but I think I’d be back at the same time that Ginny would be — maybe we’d have some meta moments there, you know?”
Still, Wright — who played Ginny Weasley in all eight films — will be cheering on the new cast from the sidelines. “We’ve all cared about those roles for just 10 years of our lives, and I’m excited for what’s next for that character,” he shared with U.S while at the Return to Hogwarts event in New York. “There are a million ways to interpret all the characters.” So I’m excited.”
That’s what Wright hopes too Ginny could get a few more scenes in the new adaptation, which intends to devote an eight-episode season to each of the seven episodes Harry Potter books. “I also hope that more books will be made into movies,” Wright said. “There are so many characters that couldn’t be in the story because movies can only be so long.” So I hope (the TV show) can be more fleshed out, and I’m just excited for those people to have fun with those roles.”
The original movies continue to inspire fans in all kinds of ways—even through delicious recipes. Baking wizards is a Food Network competition series that features nine teams of pastry chefs and pastry chefs competing in various baking tasks. Wright joins the first season as a guest judge for the penultimate episode on Thursday, December 12.
“I feel like it’s very creative.” These contestants, who are professional people, have these amazing, elaborate designs that they bake and bring to life and it’s just a real celebration of the world of Harry Potter,” she said. U.S.
Contestants must bake treats that taste delicious and offer enchanting elements fit for a Hogwarts feast. A six-episode season, hosted by James and Oliver Phelps (who played Fred and George Weasley), was filmed during the summer at Warner Bros. Studios. Leavesden, which still houses some of the original Potter sets. Episodes take place on the sets of Platform 9 3/4, Gringotts, Diagon Alley and more. The winning team will take home the Baking Wizard’s Cup and will have the opportunity to appear in a new one Harry Potter cookbook.
Chefs Carla Hall and Joseph Youssef judge the series alongside several guests from the films, including Wright, Warwick Davis (who played Professor Flitwick) and Evanna Lynch (who played Luna Lovegood).
“It’s (the hosts) my wonderful brothers, James and Oliver Phelps,” Wright said U.S. “They do such a brilliant job of presenting the show and they really love just bringing us back to the magic of the series.” And we shot on real sets, which I think people will love because it’s so cool to go back to them and see them in more detail.”
She continued: “It was fun. I like to cook and I like to eat sweet things. I have to judge and eat food and get back to the sets and get back with my friends. I’m really looking forward to it coming out.”
The England native got her first taste of baking competition in 2016 when she competed on the celebrity edition of The Great British Bake Off, which she says made her realize how hard bakers work.
“I was on the other side; “I was actually baking,” she remarked. “It prepared me to realize how nerve-wracking it is.” Having all those cameras on you while doing a high-stress job is a lot. I only shot for two days and I was tired. These people who stay for an entire season of baking shows, that’s a lot of physical work.”
Wright judged the fifth episode Baking wizardsfilmed on the set of Dumbledore’s office, where the four-tiered showstoppers appear to transform from one thing to another.
Although her own baked goods at home aren’t quite as intricate, Wright loves being in the kitchen. She often cooks at home for her one-year-old son Eli, whom she shares with her husband Andrew Lococo.
“I like to bake or cook a lot of things. Obviously, now I have my son to cook for, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God.’ I mean, I live in California, so we have amazing vegetables and fruits all the time,” Wright explained. “When it comes to cakes—and I love cookies and muffins and loaves—I always like to spice things up, like spice them up, fruit. I love making my own jams. I try to stay on the healthier side of the spectrum. Less sugar, alternative sugars… you can get it all at the grocery store when it comes to more fun flavors, healthier stuff. So I try to do that, especially with my son.”
She is happy that Elio is not too harsh a judge of his own food. “I don’t think he learned you can be picky,” she said with a laugh.
Harry Potter: Baking Wizards airs on Food Network and Max Thursdays at 8:00 PM ET.
