Black and white with soft organic touches

These homeowners, parents of three daughters, were heading toward their retirement years when they purchased this forever home outside of Atlanta. As for the design, they started with some scratch, so friends recommended Meriwether Design Group. After checking out the designer’s work on Houzz, the couple called on the firm to help them make their new home their own. Designer Meriwether McAdams had a hand in every inch of the design, including cabinetry, finishes, lighting, furniture and architectural details such as ceiling beams, wainscoting and a new fireplace surround.

“They were close to being an empty nester, and this house is within walking distance of Marietta Square,” McAdams says. The square is a popular attraction in Marietta, as it is full of cute shops and restaurants. The couple knew they wanted neutrals, especially contrasting black and white. The designer worked closely with them to add comforting organic and soft touches that prevent the black and white contrast from feeling too stark.
