BERTO offers a smart + storage place for your hidden secrets

Designer from Valencia Alberto Sanchezco-founder MUT Designlaunched a new brand called BERTO. His first creation is Hidden Secrets: all the unlimited joy of a 1×1 brick, but this time make it a tall design. Hidden Secrets includes unique geometric storage ceramic vessels, all glazed in brilliantly glossy shades straight from the Pantone catalog. Created in cooperation with professionally trained craftsmen from S. Bernardomasters of large-scale ceramics, they are as stunning separately as they are when stacked together. Each piece is precious yet playful, encouraging a sense of silliness amongst the somewhat mundane act of storage.

Four glossy, round ceramic shapes in blue, green, pink and lavender are embedded in a square lavender base, set on a concrete surface.

The colors of this collection are truly beautiful – the expert use of glaze infuses pieces that can be matched with a distinct shine, transcending the glossy topcoat and exploring the world of shades. Some are solid colors, and some get a burst glaze, a touching detail that reminds us of ancient porcelain dishes. On such a geometric form, this cheeky nod to the past bases the collection in the legendary line of clay work, creating threads of connection between materiality and humanity. An elegant alignment of circle and square, each working in proportion to indicate to the viewer decades, indeed centuries of craft, history and culture.

A two-tone ceramic object with a round lid, lavender on top and dark blue on the bottom, is on a concrete floor near a wall with yellow painted lines.

Stack these colorful blocks on top of each other or turn them upside down to reveal the perfect storage space. Each with its own distinct wash, like a watercolor spreading across the page, the palette ranges from a happy lavender to a deep cobalt, almost navy tone, but with a glow that infuses energy into the scheme. The blocks can be stacked in any way you choose, offering an intentional way to interact with your space and a neat way to keep the party going. Arrange and stack blocks together to create a table, or go bigger to form a totemic sculpture in any space, all while knowing your secrets are hidden until you’re ready to reveal them.

BERTO reminds us that in the age of digitized immediacy, this solo venture by Sanchez is much more than furniture – it is an invitation, allowing slowness in a fast-paced world, meticulously creating with hands. Each part of the Hidden Secret requires commitment, time to infuse the vessel with humanity. The way these pieces are lovingly produced is evident, created through the power of collaboration between designer and craftsman. A subversion of materials and industry as a whole, BERTO imagines a world where thoughtful objects are created with love, to last.
