An event that can change your thoughts around textile conservation – Decor8

Both Cavits and Marcella have been achieved by business female. They both spent the past 20 years by exploring the world of heritage textiles, pieces that are largely hidden from the mainstream, but still affect whether they are aware of whether it is aware of it or not. Marcella is also a marketing expert who teaches online classes in the SELVRUGRUGE magazine. Her next class, called “Make your brand“, will be held in October for a week online.

Despite their success, both ladies are in the country and passionate about their work. You could say that they took care of KSTANT and that it was not just a commercial company. It was a true passion project that was visible from the moment you met and experienced the first day of events.

In 2020. years, these passionate ladies launched and curses their first global gathering and exhibition of heritage, ancient techniques, master craftsmen and passionate creative in Mekico City. They called him with the text. Then the pandemic hit which project placed on the ice.

As soon as Savid-19 pandemia posed a threat, they continued to plan their gathering in Palma, Mallorca, and Kstant was born.

KStant encourages all lovers of textiles and manufacturers of heritage to participate in the participant – to share their work and unique stories, explain their processes and sell their pieces on the market. Some manufacturers also teach and submit workshops. I learned a workshop on the Indian connection of the young master, Raasleela. Everyone seemed powered and open, ready to discuss even uncomfortable topics in the design industry. During the lecture and tour, we discussed the importance of consumers more into account about where it is produced and how it produces. We talked about the need to think more and consume less. KSTANT was one of those gatherings in which the real talks felt possible.

This year I was called to attend as a journalist, so I could report later about the event if I find it inspired and worthy of sharing. Of course, I did! I shared my entire live journey on Instagram, in my stories and on my install. However, I wanted to share here even more to Decor8, so I decided to interview the inspired founders of KSTANTA so that you can know how Board came and what goals have for this creative gathering, inter alia.

I adored raw, open culture there and appreciated organic, natural and peaceful vibrations that Kavita and Marcella created in KSTANT. I also respected their readiness to cut through “simple” conversations and discuss hard issues – it was refreshing. Cavita warm, but passionately, explained during the opening day of the press tour that we need to be much more careful about our purchase habits and remember that our actions have consequences as consumers. She walked a conversation with wearing bedding and handmade clothes.

All participants are encouraged to collect information, learn and engage each other in a unique and inspiring non-fair Format. Most of the manifestations occurred during the second week, after the week of withdrawal and education at a nearby Finci. The second week was where the public could attend and gather at Can In central palm, where you could find inspirational lectures, tours, music and the market for purchases directly from the manufacturer. In other parts of the city on Can Balaguer and Casa Museo can markYou can take Qtantic workshops or displays on the screen.

Are you ready to know more about KSTANT directly from the founder? Let’s start …

Holly: Describe KSTANT for DECOR8 readers in several sentences …

Kavita & Marcella: Of course! KSTANT is a global gathering of textile lovers who are passionate about excellence in the craft, sustainability and conservation of ancestral textile. This growing interdisciplinary community will meet once a year on the island of Mallorca during the first two weeks of May to strengthen his passion and commitment to learning, partly and building physical experiential spaces in buildings in heritage. The five-day festival is open to public and characteristic talks, roundtables and exhibitions, workshops and a market where you can get to know the manufacturers. It is a mandatory event for any textile enthusiasts.

Holly: How is Kstant come?

Markela: KSTANT is the result of our career. We tired of complaint about the unsuccessful fashion system and take action starting from the source: the legacy of textiles.

Cavita: I remember being very inspired by an interview Sir David Frederick Attenborough where he said, “No one will protect what they don’t care; and no one will worry about what they never experienced”

We worked to create an educational, experiential and ephemeral concept that would show the world of heritage textiles in a way that no one leaves any indifferent. Our goal was to gather all the incredible people and projects that we have been cooperating each other, share knowledge in building a space in which we could call the public to experience the public to experience the beauty handmade.

Holly: Tell me why the heritage textile and craft became such a passion and focus in the first place?

Marcella: Our focus is on providing a platform for Master Textile Craftsman, some of which are among the last of its generations. Our goal is to celebrate them as stone stars, while they rise their work and knowledge to the level of modern art. For us, textiles are texts that represent the next boundary of modern art.

KSTANT comes from the word “Support”, which means “still in existence, not extinct or destroyed or lost.” It is a tabula of race, white beed, a fresh piece of paper. We use it to bring a new vision and content in a very old trade inheritance trade.

Textile is language. In the past, people used the basics and the horseshoe before there were words. The threads were used to express individuality, status, beliefs, communities, primarily, diversity. Textiles are texts and sources of information; They contain codes and signs that talk about roots, continuity and strength.

We believe that the language of the legacy of textiles is still alive and lively. It was hidden from the mainstream, sometimes even used as a beautiful decoration, but it is mostly rejected as unpaid and something undamaged, so irrelevant. However, that is exactly the opposite; The inheritance textile is very relevant and are on the perfect scale: human scale.

Cavita: I was lucky to start my career in the heritage of textiles and I’m just passionate about them like Marcella. We are both witnesses to loss of valuable indigenous knowledge in most craft communities due to the industrialization of crafts, especially in the last two decades. As “Artisan Made” and “Craft” become Buzzzirds in the fashion industry, the influence is even worse. Under pressure faster, cheaper design and influence of current trends, we also lose excellence and diversity of local expression. It is urgent to shine light on this situation and attract the best talent to help preserve this knowledge for future generations.

Holly: What is your dream for Xtant in the future?

Marcella: In order to build a strong global community inheritance in legacy united by the principles of generosity, excellence and curiosity.

Cavita: I dream about KSTANT I become a common community space where we can get together to recharge, to be a lighthouse of hope for human values and create only a fairer and fairer world.

Holly: Will Textile Stay the Focus of Xtant or will extend to ceramics, jewelry, etc.?

Marcella: Textiles is a huge topic and our focus will remain. We will not expand into other areas. KSTANT, in its core, an educational project that uses textiles as a metaphor for investigating urgent issues such as scale, cultural identity, climate change and sustainability in all of their respects and definitions.

Cavita: Textiles includes countless craft expressions, from basket to surface design, art to clothing to home decor to extras. We feel that we still have a lot to explore this huge field. However, hand-knitted and hand-woven jewelry made with various fibers are already largely involved in our scope.

Holly: Why did you choose Palma, Mallorca as a location?

Marcella: Using the Mallorca Government, KSTANT turns palm into destination for all textile lovers, collectors, architects, interior designers, manufacturers and fiber artists.

Cavita: The original plan was to have two nomadic events and travel the world with them. The first event, Tecto, was held in February 2020. In Mekico City and was a huge success. Then the world stopped. We paid with support and beautiful e-mail and messages from all who attended, shared how the experience affected them.

Spain, where I live, I mostly came up with our second event, and due to the restriction of travel and because it is a hub for a growing international creative community that is interested in sustainability and alternative ways of life. The Palma Local Administration also offered support by enabling us to use historical buildings as places. Our relationship with them has only been strengthened since.

Holly: Will KStant travel to other cities or continue to be based only in Palma?

Marcella: KSTANT will have its own base in Mallorca and will add a nomadic event called KSTANT EDIT in the fall.

Cavita: Every Maja is dedicated to the annual global gathering in Mallorca and invited us to keep sister events in many different cities around the world.

Holly: What were some personal emphasis for you from KSTANT 2023. Year you will soon not forget?

Marcella: I was amazed that some craftsmen from the community presented their first art pieces. Woe! I also impressed me the number of visitors who came to the end of Japan, Korea, Australia, Chile and other countries, and all with open hearts and unique ideas about how to experience Ktant. Now I see KSTANTA as a pilgrimage, two weeks of the year intended for magic and meaning.

Cavita: The ad for me was an increased sense of community that appeared and made us feel in the house.

Holly: If you could possess a single CSTANT object any of your manufacturers, what would your piece of dreams be?

Markela: So much! My piece of dreams is Sun from Adrian Pepe. I also consider other pieces of dreams to be an embroidery Clara Saldarriagadress from Raasleelaand the tapestry of Kelgvo.

Cavita: I was lucky to have hands on one of the first works of art Shamji VanksArtizana for 7. Generation, it was specially made for this edition of KSTANT. This piece was his first attack in the art that is more special to me.

Holly: Who are some of the people you would like to see an exhibition in the future in KSTAT?

Markela: We are very interested in the intersection of art and crafts. We would like to see more artists and craftsmen to represent their work as art.

Cavita: More artistic and craftsmen from the continent of Africa, which we feel remains insufficiently represented and artists like Cecilia Vicuna are on our wish list.

HOLLY: What do you think KSTANT do you think is so special?

Markela: What KSTANT is special its uniqueness. Every year we are investigating a different subject and create a new experience that is also fun and surprising. This is what makes it special: he survives in the process.

Cavita: KSTANT is not fair, it is a celebration and a festival manually done, built with hope and joy for us and all who participate and visit, to share our stories, joy and passion for textiles.

Holly: And why would we visit KSTANT 2024. Years?

Marcella & Cavita : Because the magic happens … For artists: You will find your tribe and redirect your passion. For customers: It is a place to find treasures, best and most vulnerable crafts and get to know creative and inspiring people who make them. Publicity: Here you will testify to the extraordinary abundance and have an unforgettable experience.
