7 Bold New Powder Rooms

Designers: Jessica Warren and Amanda Tarango from Baker Design Group
Location: Spring, Texas
Size: 47 square feet (4.4 square meters)

Homeowner’s request. “The clients’ needs, desires and goals were to modernize the space; create a luxurious, dramatic feel; and respect the original architectural details,” says designer Jessica Warren.

Special features. “Handmade wallpaper with a large, textured pattern works beautifully within a small room and high ceilings, adding visual depth without overwhelming the space,” says Warren. “The metallic finish introduces a dramatic, luxurious quality. To maintain a cohesive, monochromatic palette, the trim and ceiling were painted a coordinating shade (Peppercorn by Sherwin-Williams).”

The vanity is a custom ebony stained cabinet with a quartz top and a round beige opaque glass sink.

Designer advice. “We leaned into the challenges of this powder bath—high ceilings and awkward angles—by embracing a darker, monochromatic palette,” says Warren. “Deep tones grounded the room and minimized awkward proportions. To lift the space and keep it from feeling heavy, we applied layers of gold. That subtle shimmer catches the light, creating a dramatic yet elegant atmosphere—perfect for homeowners who want both boldness and sophistication in a smaller space.”

“Uh-oh” moment.
“In the middle of the installation, our wallpaper installer informed us that we didn’t have enough paper to complete the project,” says Warren. “As the wallpaper is handmade and would take six to eight weeks to redo, waiting wasn’t an option. As a quick fix, we got a stunning glass tile for the toilet wall – and in the end, we think it turned out even better.”

Backsplash: Ginza in granite, MDC; backsplash tile: Brook in Stacked Twilight, Soho Studio; sink: Whist opaque glass in Doe, Kohler; sconces: Vintage Brass Copenhagen, Corbett Collection, Hudson Valley Lighting; mirror: Vault, Uttermost; hardware: Dayton in champagne bronze, Misenault
